Review on The Fox at Oddington
Nestling in an archetypal Cotswold hamlet within easy reach of Moreton in Marsh and Stow on the Wold, this picture-pretty, ivy-clothed inn is a marvellously animated, rambling place with a cracking reputation for hospitality, honest food and splendid drinking.
At the heart of the pub is its central bar with flagstone floors, hop-garlanded beams, bare wooden tables and emblematic fox heads. Dotted all around are several other stone-walled rooms, eating areas and alcoves done out in traditional style; there's also a lovely walled garden for al fresco meals.
The kitchen works to a short, daily menu that plunders the gastro pub repertoire for the likes of honey-roast duck salad with raspberry vinaigrette, salmon and leek fishcakes with hollandaise and fillet of pork with sage mash and Dijon mustard sauce. Desserts are in similar vein, ranging from poached pears with chocolate sauce to autumn berry parfait. Real ales are kept in good order and the admirable wine list has a decent selection by the glass.
