Review on The Garden Cafe & Gallery
Occupying the old malthouse in the grounds of Lydbrook House (part of a conservation area not far from the Wye Valley), the Garden Café & Gallery prides itself on using local and organic produce – including the pickings from its own kitchen garden.
The place is open for all-day breakfasts and café food, and there's an extended choice on Friday and Saturday evenings. Typical offerings might include falafel with tzatziki and salad, pan-fried duck breast with rocket salad and Basque chicken with potatoes followed by American-style waffles or fresh fruit Pavlova. On Monday evenings, a special fixed-price tapas menu is the order of the day.
True to the spirit of the enterprise, the wine list has an 'organic' tag and there are also local beers on offer. Note: the Garden Café doesn't accept credit cards; also, children are welcome 'strictly by negotiation'.
