Review on Holdfast Cottage Hotel
'What a luv-er-ly little place, teddy bears and all,' wrote Paddy Burt in the Weekend Telegraph, and this enchanting country cottage known as Holdfast Cottage Hotel, at the foot of the Malvern Hills certainly weaves a very special kind of magic. Wisteria climbs all over the exterior and there are 2 acres of enchanting gardens and lawns at the back of the cottage, which has been run as a hotel for more than 50 years.
The pretty green dining room has spectacular views of the Malvern Hills and it makes a suitably relaxed, cottagey setting for food with a seasonal accent, all freshly prepared daily and locally sourced wherever possible. Menus change each day, but you might open with pumpkin and almond soup or toasted goats' cheese salad with balsamic vinaigrette before trying honey-glazed duck with beetroot and red onion relish or brioche-crusted fillet of cod with creamy leek sauce. As a conclusion, consider 'chocolate heaven' torte or lemon mousse on melting meringue with mixed summer berries.
