Review on Evuna
Evuna bills itself as a 'fine Spanish wine house' and it has built up an auspicious reputation as a premium merchant, tapas bar and restaurant in the heart of Manchester. The place is owned by a wine importer from Madrid and the cellar runs to some 600 bins - many from traditional family-run vineyards that are rarely available elsewhere in the UK. You can also buy from the shop at prices that are well below the restaurant norm.
The interior of Evuna conjures up some of that old Spanish magic, with its bare brick walls, shiny glass tables, wine racks and vibrant menu of nibbles and bigger dishes. Charcuterie and cheeses are high on the agenda, but the line up of 'para picar' (tapas) takes in garlic prawns with chilli, deep-fried cod with garlic mayo, pork skewers, albondigas and various tortillas.
The kitchen has its own way with patatas bravas and also sends out larger dishes along the lines of duck breast in aged port sauce and summer fruits, chicken breast with sun-dried tomatoes and dates and the house special - whole sea bass baked in rock salt.
