Review on Gaucho Manchester
The Mancunian outpost of the London-based Gaucho chain is a visually stunning, opulent space incorporating two mezzanine areas and a bar in the heart of the city. Prime Argentinian steaks, aged for four to six weeks, cut to order then flash-grilled are the main attraction, and here they are served with a sauce of your choice (béarnaise, chipotle pepper or foie gras, for example) plus appropriate side orders.
Starters feature salads and ceviches aplenty (the Ecuadorian version consists of marinated tiger prawns in roasted tomato and lime sauce served with maize cancha), while desserts include Latin American churros (sweet pastries) or banana cake drizzled with prune-speckled passion fruit sauce.
To accompany the food, customers can peruse one of the most comprehensive lists of Argentinian wines in the UK. A resident live band Salsa Pa Gozar does its stuff on Friday evenings; on Saturdays, DJs spin their way through the night. Gaucho has a burgeoning number of restaurants in London (visit the company's website for details) plus an outlet in Richmond.
