Review on Kosmos Taverna
Kosmos brings echoes of the sunny Hellenic countryside and seascapes to the outer suburbs of Manchester, with its bright decor and hotpotch of Greek memorabilia. Lulla Astin has been the life and soul of the place for 30 years, and she's lost none of her enthusiasm or spirit; she even takes time to promote her native cuisine on TV.
Her lengthy menu ploughs its way through the traditional repertoire, from three-stage meze banquets to a trolley loaded with sticky sweets and pastries. In between, you can expect punchy homemade dips, classic fasolatha (cannellini bean soup), kleftiko, pork afelia and 'drunken chicken' from the Isle of Hydra, as well as a brigade of char-grilled meat and fish.
Kosmos remains a firm favourite with the local community, and even does cut-price 'wine and dine' deals for students (Mon-Thurs only). Quaffable Greek-Cypriot wines head the reasonably priced list.
