Review on Lime Tree
For almost two decades, this old Didsbury trouper has established itself as perhaps the most popular and iconic neighbourhood restaurant in Manchester. It's a consistent all-rounder with a buzzy, totally unstuffy bistro atmosphere, a stalwart that delivers the goods without threatening the bank balance.
Its ever-changing, worldwide menus take account of the seasons and local supplies, so you can expect bags of variety and excitement. Kick off with roast spatchcock quail with Bury black pudding and apple compote or spaghettoni with a ragout of mussels and chilli, before halibut steak with a Welsh rarebit crust, Thai-spiced monkfish or roast loin of lamb with leeks wrapped in Parma ham. To conclude, try cherry pannacotta or sticky toffee pudding with hot toffee sauce.
Early-evening fixed-price menus are great value and wine buffs are also in for a treat. The list is global although Europe figures prominently and it's worth looking for the clutch of wines of the month.
