Review on No 4 Wood Street Restaurant
Chef patron David Robbins took over No 4 Wood Street Restaurant in August 2012, located in an historic eighteenth-century building that once served as a maltings in Mansfield. Inside it has been subtly and sensitively converted with a mix of traditional and modern features including a stunning stained glass window designed by a local student.
The restaurant is nestled between local businesses and the art collage, and the food aims to please all comers. Set over two floors with The Laurent Perrier Champagne Room on the ground floor, a private dining room seating 12 and the main restaurant with a cosy bar lounge on the first floor. Kick off with seared scallops, pressed ham hock, piccalilli and salad leaves before a main course of roast rump of lamb served pink, mini hotpot, lamb croquette, spinach and onion sauce or fillet of sea bass, circle chips, pea puree, capers and mint.
No 4 Wood Street is proving to be a gem of a neighbourhood restaurant and there's an interesting wine list as well as a gin menu to accompany the food.
