Review on Church House Inn

Taking its name from the nearby village church, this venerable white-painted pub can trace its origins backs to the middle of the fourteenth century. It's still very much the hub of local life, with an ancient National Trust barn next door (once a workshop used by the builders of the church) and the cricket field close by.

You can eat in the beamed bar or the mirrored dining room from a blackboard menu that offers things like twice-baked Cornish blue cheese soufflé with pickled gooseberry dressing, slow-cooked shoulder of lamb with tomato and rosemary sauce or pan-fried prawns in lemon and garlic oil. As a finale, try bread-and-butter pudding or Italian apple cake with sweet basil syrup.
