Review on L'Autre Pied
Marylebone's L'Autre Pied, 'the other foot' belongs to the same team behind the two Michelin-starred Pied-a-Terre in Charlotte Street - Formerly the Blandford Street Restaurant, the premises has been given a new look by PDT's owner David Moore, who has applied a slightly oriental gloss with hand-painted walls and screens, bare dark tables and red leather banquettes. High decibels and elbow-to-elbow seating suggest a post-modern café rather than an elite fine-dining destination - but there's nothing casual about the food on offer.
The food is direct, intelligently worked through, realistically priced and oozing with seasonality. Menus are peppered with game and comforting end-of-year flavours: saddle of Berkshire fallow deer, parsnip purée, red cabbage, pommes soufflées, rosemary sauce and pan fried brill, pickled cauliflower, sea purslane, chickpeas and lightly spiced mussel cream, for example. While desserts are picture-pretty assemblages such as bitter sweet chocolate créme, whisky and espresso granita and macademia nut mousse or the almond panna cotta, marinated prunes, raisin puree, tonka bean ice cream.
The impeccable service comes with a pronounced French accent, while the wine list scours the globe in search of quality drinking.
