Review on Picture

Picture restaurant opened in June 2013 on Great Portland Street in the premises formerly occupied by Italian restaurant La Vigna, close to the new BBC headquarters. It is the first venture from chefs Alan Christie, ex Arbutus and Colin Kelly, ex Wild Honey together with restaurant manager Tom Slegg, who has also worked for the critically acclaimed Arbutus group. This informal restaurant offers a welcome respite from the nearby hustle and bustle of shopping in Oxford Street, divided into a bar area at the front with a more traditional seating arrangement towards the back. The restaurant has a minimalist décor, flooded with natural light from the glass atrium roof and furnishings sourced from reclaimed material.

The modern European menu using seasonal ingredients is printed on simple brown paper, showcasing well-priced dishes mainly designed for sharing. Typical offerings include ravioli of Italian greens and ricotta, chilli and Parmesan, ceviche of sea bream, cucumber and sea lettuce and Lebanese fried chicken, bulgar wheat and sweetcorn. For something sweet choose panna cotta, greengage plum and oatmeal biscuit or fig and almond pie paired with yoghurt ice cream.

There's a concise wine list to complement the dishes available by the bottle, carafe or glass, tasty cocktails and pure English lager from Calvors Suffolk Brewery.
