Review on 34
34 is the new Mayfair steak house from the highly regarded Caprice Holdings, whose restaurants include The Ivy, Le Caprice and J Sheekey. The restaurant has been designed by the renowned international architect Martin Brudnizki, who is also responsible for the décor of Dean Street Townhouse and Les Deux Salon among many others. He has taken inspiration from English, Edwardian and Art Deco styles for the design of the restaurant, which also features expensive contemporary artwork on the walls.
The kitchen is under the leadership of Harvey Ayliffe who earned his culinary stripes working with Caprice Holdings, as well as the Soho House Group before becoming the head chef of Alfred's and Rules in Covent Garden. The centre-piece of the semi-open kitchen is a custom-made parrilla grill, imported from Argentina, which is fed by natural fuels. The menu focuses on rare breed steaks, seasonal game and seafood caught from sustainable sources. Expect Australian Wagyu, US prime Creekstone Farm, free range organic grass-fed beef from northern Argentina and British Salt Marsh lamb. While desserts bring on board such delights as sloe gin fizz jelly with Amalfi lemon sherbet or fleur de sel chocolate and mint bombe. The well-considered global wine list offers ample choice across the range, with 27 wines available by the glass.
