Review on Hakkasan Mayfair
Hakkasan Mayfair opened in November 2010 just off prestigious Berkeley Square Mayfair, the second London outpost of this renowned Chinese restaurant, the original in Soho has been winning awards and plaudits since 2001. The sleek sultry décor of the new branch is the work of French designer Guillaume Richard and is very similar in style to its older brother, with the use of dark wood, luxurious marble and the trademark moody lighting. Set over two floors, with the basement dining room featuring carved Oriental screens dividing the room into sections, and a chic lounge bar on the ground floor for lunchtime dim sum and exotic cocktails.
Signature dishes include roasted silver cod with champagne and Chinese honey, stir-fry Chilean seabass with Szechuan pepper, sweet basil and spring onion and Cantonese style steamed brill with lily flower and black fungus in soya sauce. There are some new dishes on the Mayfair menu as well, such as steamed New Zealand mini lobster, black truffle roast duck and sliced blue abalone in Hakka sauce. Artfully displayed desserts hit the button with cardamon crème brûlée and a chocolate soufflé. There is an impressive international wine list featuring many prominent producers, with some offering by the glass. Service as you would expect from Hakkasan is meticulous and professional.
