Review on Novikov
Novikov restaurant located on prestigious Berkeley Square, is the self-named restaurant of Russian restaurateur Arkady Noviko, his first venture outside Russia where he has over fifty establishments. The 400 seated venue has undergone a very expensive makeover and features two restaurants, the Italian Room, the Asian Room and the downstairs Lounge Bar that hosts regular live music.
The Asian Room is situated at the front of the main entrance, a glamorous moodily lit room with cracked granite walls, bamboo chandeliers, a stunning lacquered ebony bar-counter decorated with jade stone, all overlooked by the glass fronted kitchen. The kitchen is headed by experienced Japanese trained Head Chef Jeff Tyler who prepares tasty Chinese and Pan Asian dishes such as King Crab with Penang Sauce, and Pork Belly with Spicy Glaze together with an extensive menu of sushi, dim sum and barbecued and charcoal dishes.
The elegant Italian room has a rustic décor featuring suede wall panelling, handmade tiles, solid oak framed mirrors and huge chandeliers with candles, with the wood-fired oven taking centre stage. The kitchen is under the leadership of head chef Marco Torri who offers up a menu of regional dishes with a focus on the south where be was born, but also includes some northern classics such as risotto, vitello tonnata and salt crust sea bass. There is an extensive wine list to complement the food as well as a carefully crafted cocktail menu.
