Review on Pollen Street Social
Pollen Street Social tucked away in a quiet street in Mayfair is Jason Atherton's first solo venture following his departure from Gordon Ramsey's Maze. The restaurant designed by Lyndon Neri and Rosanna Hu is divided into two rooms with a striking 40 seat bar as you enter the venue, together with an open plan dining room with comfortable banquettes and contemporary artwork on the walls. A private dining room containing the wine cellar is also available on the basement floor offering views of the action in the main kitchen.
The venue is relaxed with several dining options available, from a glass of wine, a delicious cocktail or a selection of tapas at the bar, a tempting dessert at London's first ever dessert bar, or a full course meal in the main dining room, the choice is yours. From the a la carte menu choose perhaps, escabeche of quail, chicken liver cream, nuts and seeds or light cured Shetland salmon with avocado, smoked herring roe cream amongst the starters or a main course of roasted halibut with Catalan paella, sprouting broccoli, pork-ham fat and mussel stock or West Country ox cheek with tongue and sirloin, carrots, caper and raisin purée. While desserts are lively ideas such as strawberry and tomato gazpacho, black olive sorbet, sweet bread or rhubarb and ginger with vanilla cheesecake, rhubarb sorbet and nut crumble.
Head Sommelier Laure Patry who worked with Atherton at Maze has created an exciting wine list of some 500 references to compliment the food. The restaurant is the recipient of a prestigious Michelin star and also five AA Rosettes.
