Review on The Moody Mare
Formerly The Beeches, it has now relaunched as The Moody Mare, occupying an 18th century farmhouse in the small village of Mereworth, near the town of Maidstone in Kent. Now a relaxed pub and dining area, it boasts exposed brickwork and beams, oak flooring and candlelit tables. Cast iron wood burners ensure a cosy atmosphere during colder months and there's also al fresco dining and a children's play area.
The kitchen emphasises quality ingredients sourced locally where possible with everything cooked fresh to order. Typical dishes on the extensive menu include ham hock and mushroom aranci or king prawns in garlic butter. Main courses offer chicken and bacon or lamb with mint suet pudding served with creamed mashed potatoes Chantenay carrots, tender stem broccoli and beer gravy or whole grilled plaice, mussel mariniere, cherry tomatoes and Kentish new potatoes. Sunday lunch is a popular family affair while on Friday evenings The Moody Mare sways to the sound of live entertainment.
