Review on Granby Inn and Restaurant
Set in the heart of rural Northumberland, between the Cheviots and the coast, this 250-year-old coaching inn still puts on an exceedingly friendly face – thanks largely to its welcoming family owners.
There's still plenty of character inside, although the main attraction is now the food. You can eat in the beamed bar, lounge or restaurant from a menu that makes good use of produce from local butchers and greengrocers plus daily deliveries from North Shields fish quay.
The line-up is wide-ranging and eclectic, taking in such things as king prawns with sweet chilli sauce, rack of lamb with black pudding and chicken in lemon and paprika sauce. There are also a few more elaborate ideas such as sirloin steak stuffed with pâté in a port wine sauce, along with desserts like sherry trifle or pecan and toffee sponge pudding.
