Review on Marktwirt
Marktwirt in Munich is a modern Alpine restaurant in an historic setting. The picturesque old town premises have in the past accommodated a timber merchant, a cobbler shop and a strudel kitchen. Heiko Helbig has now transformed this historic building at the Viktualienmarkt into an airy restaurant with wooden furniture and fresco paintings on the ceilings. Chef Christoph Piontkowsky has a menu offering Alpine and internationally spruced up delicacies, such as venison stew with vegetable polenta or lukewarm Mohnguglhupf (poppy ring cake). The restaurant is reviving almost forgotten recipes such as bread soup with dunkelbier (dark beer). Diners can also expect an attractive wine list.
