Review on Mrs Forman's Bar & Kitchen
Mrs Forman's Bar & Kitchen takes its name from the wife of the original owner who purchased the land and built the property back in 1822. Ideally placed the small venue overlooks Musselburgh's Golf Course, which is officially recognised as the oldest golf course in the world and once again is run by a husband and wife team. The restaurant has a welcoming and traditional décor with interesting golfing memorabilia displayed throughout the room. When the weather is warm you can take the opportunity of relaxing in their large beer garden and take in the views of the surrounding countryside.
There is a real dedication to fresh local ingredients and the menu features hearty British dishes alongside an excellent selection of wines and beers. On offer there might be grilled Stornoway black pudding with a wholegrain mustard sauce or Belhaven smoked trout pate bound in a lemon and chervil mayonnaise served with warm bread amongst the starters. Main courses take in grilled fillet of sea bass with mussels, parsley and garlic butter sauce, new potatoes and roasted vegetables or for the carnivores choose the house steak matured for 35 days served with mushroom and grilled tomato.
