Review on The Clissold Arms
Fans of the Kinks will know that the legendary rock band played their very first live gig in this Muswell Hill boozer, The Clissold Arms - although they probably wouldn't recognise the place now. Following a major overhaul, the Clissold Arms has become a dedicated follower of food fashion, morphing into an up-to-the-minute gastropub serving unpretentious food to a clued-up young crowd.
The kitchen sends out hearty starters such as carrot and wild garlic soup or pan-roast quail with Puy lentils and caramelised onion, ahead of mighty fish pies, pot-roast poussin with black pudding and barley risotto, Middlewhite pork loin and fillet of wild sea bass with shaved fennel, Jerusalem artichokes and roast vine tomatoes. Desserts are mostly hits of yesteryear - rhubarb and apple crumble, lemon meringue pie and such like. Tip-top real ales and some gluggable wines satisfy the thirsty hordes.
