Some say this is 'the finest fish and chips in London!' Toff's has been around a long time, serving the needs of Muswell Hill locals and attracting a following from distant parts of the capital. However, it's worth bearing in mind that they don't take bookings.
It can be noisy and hectic, with queues at the takeaway counter and tables packed in the separate dining room, where signed celebrity photos and sepia prints of Victorian fish markets add to the atmosphere.
'Toffs' is an abbreviation of Toffali (the founder's name), which may explain the presence of a few Greek items on the menu. Otherwise it's a long trawl through cod, haddock, rock salmon and the like, which can be grilled or fried in batter or matzo meal. There are also a few luxuries like sea bass, plus apple pie if you have room for afters.
