Review on The River Bar and Restaurant
NEWBURY MANOR IS CURRENTLY CLOSED FOR REFURBISHMENT
TO RE-OPEN IN APRIL 2017
The main restaurant at Newbury Manor now occupies the atmospheric River Bar, a converted watermill that has been restored to its former glory. It also has a delightful prospect of the weir and the rushing waters of the River Kennet and the Avon as they meet in the hotel grounds.
Skilfully crafted, intricate modern food with eclectic overtones is the order of the day, and the kitchen conjures up lots of contrasting flavours and textures. King scallops might be served with confit garlic, carrot noodles and beetroot dressing, while fillets of halibut and sea bream are accompanied by apricot and Thai asparagus tarte Tatin, wasabi dressing and sweet tomato sauce. Meat fans could opt for fillet of pork with a savoury apple spring roll and caramelised balsamic walnut dressing; desserts have featured summer pudding with strawberry pannacotta.
The wine list offers a prestigious choice of international names ranging from everyday bottles to premium vintages. For casual meetings and drinks, try the traditional Piano Bar or the airy Conservatory.
Newbury Manor is a listed Georgian manor, discreetly located in nine acres of Berkshire woodland and water meadows teeming with wildlife. It is valued as an 'oasis of tranquillity' within easy reach of the M4 and Newbury Racecourse.
