Review on The Winterbourne Arms
A carefully preserved bread oven is a reminder that the The Winterbourne Arms, an idyllic village pub restaurant started life as a bakery some three centuries ago. The half-timbered exterior looks as pretty as a picture, and inside it has been tastefully done out in rustic style with old village photos and country prints on the walls, trinkets hanging from the beams, and warming fires in cold weather.
The dinner menu is a slate of dependable, restaurant-style dishes including sautéed garlic mushrooms with white wine sauce on toasted brioche, pan-fried lamb chops on minted mash with redcurrant jus, grilled lemon sole with parsley butter, and sticky toffee pudding.
On Sundays (until 4 o'clock) there's a popular brunch including a 'late breakfast', scrambled eggs with smoked salmon, char-grilled chicken and avocado salad and tagliatelle bolognese, as well as roast beef with all the trimmings.
