Review on Montaz
Montaz restaurant is the youngest sibling in a small chain of Indian restaurants, set a short stroll from the High Street in the busy market town of Newmarket, famous throughout the world as the home of thoroughbred horse racing. The restaurant welcomes guests into a sleek and contemporary setting with a stylish bar area, perfect for pre and post dinner drinks.
The menu pays homage to the full flavours and authenticity of Northern India and the Punjab, covering a lot of familiar ground alongside innovative specialities. The tasting platter for two consisting of a selection of chicken tikka, sheek kebab, salmon tikka and vegetable pakora is a good starting point, followed perhaps by the signature dish of Harin Mansh, venison marinated with an array of fresh herbs and spices served with asparagus or for fish fanciers there's Mahi Machli, fillet of sea bass marinated with tandoori spices paired with spinach and potatoes. When it comes to desserts there are Westernized choices in the shape of cheesecake or chocolate brownie.
Montaz has a concise wine list to complement the dishes alongside Indian beers such as Cobra and Kingfisher.
