Cradled in the midst of the Wentlooge Flats, just a few fields away from the Severn Estuary, this bespoke 'inn' started life as a nineteenth-century barn. Recent renovation has brought it right up-to-date and it now offers excellent facilities, accommodation and fine food.
There's a touch of clean minimalism about the chic restaurant, where guests can look forward to international food based largely around supplies of Welsh produce. To start, there might be St Brides seafood chowder or smoked chicken and pine nut linguine, ahead of braised lamb shank with mash and Madeira sauce, 'posh' fish and chips or tuna steak with caponata. As a finale, try syrup sponge pudding with custard or tempura banana with butterscotch.
Fixed-price lunches are a snip for straightforward dishes like beef tomato and Mozzarella salad, roast turkey with mustard sauce, and white chocolate pyramid.
