Review on Llys Meddyg Restaurant with Rooms
Newport on the north Pembrokeshire coast has recently joined the burgeoning ranks of sought-after trendy seaside destinations and it's easy to see why: the village stands on an untouched stretch of the Welsh coast beneath the magical Carn Ingli (the Mountain of Angels) within the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park.
Llys Meddyg (literally 'doctor's court') fits perfectly into this cool scene. The Georgian townhouse started life as a coaching inn; later it became a GP's residence and now it's a classy little boutique hotel and restaurant with an art gallery dedicated to the work of the late Peter Daniels.
Local and organic produce are the cornerstones of the menu, which moves into the realms of Llys Meddyg crab cakes with coriander and chilli or garlic-marinated lamb cutlets served on a bed of Pernod-flavoured baby spinach. Desserts are a regular talking point and it's worth seeking out the Welsh cheeseboard. The walled kitchen garden is used for al fresco light lunches and summertime barbecues.
