Review on Bumpkin
Sprawling over four floors in a prime corner of W11, Bumpkin is the well-bred country cousin from Ignite's clubbing stable and it puts on its finest ersatz rustic clothes for the local crowd. There's a laid-back brasserie on the ground floor, a restaurant offering slightly more refined dishes of similar ilk above it, and – at the very top – private dining facilities and two whisky rooms with their own whisky sommelier.
For comfort food or a quick bite choose the brasserie, where the menu offers 'pots and pies', smoked haddock fishcakes with aïoli, Gloucester Old Spot pork chops and chunks of turbot. Pick the restaurant and you can expect pan-fried chicken livers with toasted walnuts and balsamic vinegar, line-caught sea bass with slow-cooked celeriac, anchovy and rosemary dressing, and sticky toffee pudding.
Real ales, organic cider and plenty of eminently drinkable wines by the glass complete the package. A second branch has opened at 102 Old Brompton Road, SW7.
