Review on Goode & Wright
Behind an unassuming exterior, at the end of Portobello Road in trendy Notting Hill lies Goode & Wright, a French bistro with a proper British accent is how it accurately bills itself. Seating just 40 diners, the restaurant is an intimate place with lots of character, wood panelled walls, half curtained windows, chequerboard flooring and candlelit tables creating a cosy romantic atmosphere.
Manning the stove is Finlay Logan who places great emphasis on sourcing the finest ingredients for his menu and he's adamant that their quality and freshness are the focus of all his dishes. Typical starters on the regularly changing menu are duck egg in a basket or maybe crab remoulade, pork cracking and apple. Main courses follow the theme with roast buttermilk marinated poussin served with frites and salad or smoked haddock branade, poached egg and chorizo. When it comes to desserts there's lemon posset with vanilla meringue or dark chocolate mousse paired with salted caramel ice cream.
French varietals dominate the offerings on the wine list and there's also an excellent selection of absinthe available. Service from the charming maître d' is knowledgeable and oozes friendliness, adding to the dining experience at Goode & Wright.
