Review on Marianne
September 2013 saw the launch of Marianne Lumb's eponymous restaurant set on the corner of Chepstow Road and St Stephen's Mews in the largely residential area of Notting Hill, a short walk from Westbourne Park. This bijou establishment is probably London's smallest restaurant with just five tables and 14 covers it offers an intimate and exclusive dining experience. Designed by Godrich Interiors, Marianne's is decked out in pale green and peach, vintage wall lights provide soft lighting, with curtains covering the lower part of the windows enhancing the cosy atmosphere and tables are well laid with crisp white linen.
Cookery author, and BBC Masterchef, The Professionals finalist, Marianne has climbed the culinary ladder at a number of critically acclaimed restaurants including Gravetye Manor and Michelin-starred The River Café and Le Gavroche, as well as cooking for private clients such as Elton John and the Sainsbury Family.
Meticulously sourced local produce and seasonal ingredients are put through their paces for a daily changing menu that might kick off with cèpe tart and parmesan, or Summer truffle risotto. Follow on with a main course of poached turbot with rosti potatoes and fines herb hollandaise or for meat lovers there's fillet of grass fed Wagyu beef, both served with Wye Valley Autumn asparagus. To finish chocolate nemesis, with provençal figs, almonds and damson sorbet is a standout dessert for chocolate lovers, or maybe choose the spiced William pear tarte tatin with nougat ice cream.
The well thought out wine list has been created for Marianne by Tom Lorimer at Lea & Sandman to complement the food and there's delicious salted caramel chocolates and coffee to finish your meal.
