Review on The Portobello Organic Kitchen
The Portobello Organic Kitchen is a genuine neighbourhood restaurant set on colourful Portobello Road, famous for its well known street market, its a short walk from Ladbroke Grove tube station. Offering a peaceful haven from the hustle and bustle of the outside, diners are welcomed into a rustic interior with chunky wood furnishings and walls covered with interesting sepia pictures of the area from yesteryear.
The kitchen as the name of the restaurant suggests makes admirable use of high quality organic produce, sourced from local farms and markets, including their own Portobello market. The menu looks to Italy for inspiration, with a few British classics such as traditional Shepherd's pie, roasted carrots and parsnips for good measure. Everything is made in house, from their delicious freshly baked bread basket to their ketchup. Typical starters include bruschetta, cherry tomatoes, fresh basil, parmesan or maybe prosciutto, roasted butternut squash, rocket and pecorino cheese. There's a good selection of pizzas on offer or you might choose a main course of salmon and smoked haddock fishcakes, cucumber salad and tartar sauce or roasted chicken breast, porcini mushroom risotto. Desserts showcase timeless classics such as tiramisu or profiteroles, fresh cream and chocolate sauce.
The wines range in aroma and flavour with options available by the glass and attentive staff inject a warmth into the experience.
