Review on Oriental Pearl
Opened as The Pearl in 2000, this popular restaurant in West Bridgford recently underwent a major transformation with the aim of putting back some of its the 'oriental' style. The name has been changed accordingly and the interior has been given a new look with antique wooden screens, moody lighting, intricately carved wooden tables and red lanterns.
The ground-floor bar now exudes a sexy Shanghai feel with leather sofas, suede seating and Chinese silk, plus live music on Thursdays. Dim sum, Asian-style tapas, noodles and salads are mainstays of the menu and there are some inventive cocktails to be had (try the Oriental Martini made with fresh ginger, coriander syrup and vodka).
Above is the main restaurant, which offers a lengthy menu of Cantonese dishes supplemented by specialities from other regions including Szechuan, Peking and Shanghai. Typical offerings might include specialities such as stuffed duck in plum sauce, fillet of halibut tempura in prawn sauce, lobster with ginger and spring onions, and stir-fried belly pork with mangetout, asparagus and sweet pea. Sunday lunch is a family-friendly buffet.
