Review on Fishers Restaurant
'Fishers is a supporter of the RNLI and of sustainable fishing' says a note on the menu, suggesting that this ten-year-old seafood restaurant just over Magdalen Bridge really does live up to its name.
Supplies arrive daily from markets around the UK, and the menus cater for just about every palate or preference. Daily specials could include such things as crab risotto with cumin, grilled pollack steak glazed with dill hollandaise and fillets of Welsh sea bream with roasted garlic and herb oil.
The regular menu also features a varied assortment of 'traditional' dishes including rope-grown Shetland mussels with garlic and shallot cream, salmon fishcakes and - for meat eaters - roast Barbary duck breast with orange butter sauce. Desserts are simply offerings like crème brûlée or banana fritters and the wine list includes plenty of fish-friendly whites.
At lunchtime you can get two courses for a fiver; the same amount will also pay for an early-evening supper of kedgeree or grilled sardines (6-7pm, Sun-Fri). There is a branch at 35 Princess Victoria Street, Clifton, Bristol, and the Fishers team recently acquired The Plough at Clanfield, Oxfordshire.
