Review on Txakoli
Charming, rustic and traditional, Txacoli is set in the Santa Catalina neighbourhood of Palma and makes its way by offering the best of Basque cuisine. Opening in 1988 it is still run by the same family, the Aznars although it's the younger generation that run the show these days with Teresa reigning supreme in the kitchen.
Prime cuts of meat are hung and aged to perfection before being shown the charcoal grill. Starters like salt cod omelette or traditional home-made pate open up to fresh fish and seafood or sublime steak tartare. Home-made desserts include the signature coffee cream caramel.
The wine list is basically Spanish and does feature an interesting selection of Basque wines from the Txakoli and Sidra regions.
