Review on Willi's Wine Bar
Willi's Wine bar was opened in 1980 by Mark Williamson and has become something of a destination for the oenophile. Situated just behind the Palais Royal, this friendly bistro with its elegant 1930's facade and long polished oak bar, is a popular bistro for the journalists and stockbrokers from the nearby financial district. In 1983 Williamson began making posters called Bottle Art, the first featured the work of artist A.M. Cassandre and each year since, Mark has commissioned a different artist for his bottle art collection. The posters have become collector's items and you can see them displayed in the cosy rear dining room, with its oak beamed ceiling.
Chef François Yon offers a a menu that changes daily, according to the market and seasons. The cuisine with its Mediterranean influences could include dishes such as roast cod with artichokes or venison in a wine sauce and a chocolate mousse cake for dessert. The wine list features over 250 references with a strong influence from the Rhône region, but Bandol and Languedoc are also well represented, together with a few New World wines and a selection of sherries.
