Review on Drouant
Drouant, located in the 2nd arrondissement of Paris, not far from the Opéra Garnier was first opened by Charles Drouant as bar-tobacco shop in 1880, which was a very modern concept at the time. It was quickly transformed into a bistrot café and has been a restaurant ever since, with celebrity chef Antoine Westermann taking the helm in November 2005. This is an elegant art déco restaurant decked out with chocolate coloured leather chairs against cream walls adorned with gold leaf picture frames and magnificent engravings. A beautiful wrought iron staircase designed by the French artist Emile-Jacques Ruhlmann completes the picture. Since 1914 the prestigious French literary prize, Prix Goncourt has held its annual ceremony in one of the private rooms here.
Antoine Westermann serves inventive gasrtonomic cuisine inspired by his childhood memories of the dishes found in Alsace. Starters called appetisers revisited come in a series of four plates and main courses also continue the grazing theme with accompaniments in small cast iron pots and white porcelain dishes. Try exceptional seasonal products such as truffles, foie gras, Brittany lobsters, John Dory and oysters. Other plates could include tomato gaspacho fajitas or vegetable tartare with quail egg before moving on to the delicious dishes of assorted desserts.
