Review on Sola
Michelin starred Sola restaurant can be found in a quiet street in the 5th arrondissement of Paris, a short stroll from the banks of the Seine overlooking Notre Dame. It is owned by Youlin Ly, the founder of one of the first Sake bars in Paris and he has teamed up with Japanese chef Hiroki Yoshitake, who has trained with some of French leading chefs such as Pascal Barbot of Astrance and William Ledeuil of Ze Kitchen Galerie.
Housed in a 17th century building the restaurant has two dining rooms, the half-timbered refined French room and downstairs the vaulted Japanese room with exposed brick walls, where you will be expected to take your shoes off and dine on low tables, whilst seated on cushions on the floor. The unique ceramic tableware has been made and designed to match each dish by Hiroki's wife who is a potter. Yoshitake has created an inventive menu carefully harmonising modern French and Japanese cuisine to tantalise and delight your palate. There are two degustation menus on offer for lunch and dinner, together with a carefully chosen wine and sake list.
