Review on Café Sud
Café Sud is a short stroll from the Champs-Elysées, the Opéra and the Madelaine in the 8th district in a classic Parisian street filled with Hausmann buildings and not far from the main shopping areas. As the name implies, the restaurant faces south and is bathed in sunlight in the summer. It is a lovely venue for lunch or a relaxing dinner in the evening with soft jazz playing in the background.
The imaginative menu could start with carpaccio of scallops lightly seared in almond oil or semi-cooked whole duck foie gras with five spices and black cherry chutney. For the main course try calf's liver with a dash of sherry, baby spinach leaves lightly cooked in olive oil and mashed potato or oven roasted fillet of turbot, bouillabaisse juice, young spring vegetables with cumin seeds. The dessert menu includes chocolate fondant with coffee cream and a classic apple tart with ice cream. The wine list is dedicated mainly to southern French wines although it has its share of French veterans as well as some more modern interlopers from Argentina.
