Review on Dominique Bouchet
Dominique Bouchet, an elegant bistro tucked away in a little side street in the 8th arrondissement of Paris is owned by one of Paris' great chefs, Dominique Bouchet. He has an impeccable resumé having manned the stoves at renowned restaurants such as Jamin, La Tour d'Argent and Les Ambassadeurs at Le Hotel de Crillon. This is an intimate restaurant with its exposed brickwork and cream painted walls adorned with contemporary artwork and pretty flowers and flickering tea tree lights on the tables.
Bouchet prepares creative dishes from French classics, with an emphasis on quality ingredients from seasonal market produce. Kick-start proceedings with carpaccio of salmon, green apple, lemon confit, bay rose, and olive oil or 'Charlotte' style shelled crab, lettuce, avocado, green apple, tomato and fresh mango. Perfectly executed mains follow with succulent leg of lamb simmered for seven hours or roast sea bass on a bed of ratte potatoes mashed with vanilla-scented olive oil, capers and lemon. Traditional desserts round things off with a simple white peach poached in vanilla syrup and ultra brut champagne granita or apricot and pistachio pie with shortbread crust. There is an interesting wine list, and wines can be ordered by the glass, carafe or bottle. Service is very professional and attentive by the English speaking staff and for a Michelin starred restaurant this represents excellent value.
