Review on Le Meurice
Le Meurice is the three Michelin star restaurant set in the luxurious hotel of the same name, Hotel Meurice. It has an unrivalled location just opposite the Tuileries Gardens and a short walk from the the Le Louvre and the Place Vendôme. The restaurant has a stunning décor in the style of the 17th century and and was inspired by the Salon de la Paix at Château de Versailles. The beautiful gilded dining room with its ornate chandeliers and frescoes has recently been embellished by famous interior designer Phillipe Starke and whilst it still retains its stunning Louis XVI décor, there is now a contemporary chic quality to the restaurant.
Following the closure of his eponymous restaurant at Plaza Athénée for a seven month refurbishment, celebrated chef Alain Ducasse has taken over the kitchens together with Head Chef Christophe Saintagne. Expect perfectly executed cuisine that transforms the simplest of ingredients into a a rich, subtle and varied menu. Open proceedings with langoustines cooked "a la minute" in aromatic stock, served with spaghetti and alba white truffle cream or duck foie gras cooked in a sugar crust with juniper berries. Inventive mains follow with sautéed blue lobster with champagne served with "Camus" artichokes and spinach ravioli or fillet of hare with caramelized juice, roast "Royal Gala" apples with bacon. To conclude there are tempting desserts such as crunchy chocolate leaves gilded with gold leaf, praline cream and caramelized "yoyo". There are a choice of menus including a White Truffle Menu at 520 Euros and a lunch menu for 78 Euros as well as the a la carte and degustation menu.
There is a refrigerated wine cellar opening to the dining room that contains 616 bottles featuring some exceptional wines, the oldest is a Château Cos D'Estournel 1928 Saint Estèphe and the most recent one is a Romanée Conti Grand Cru 2004. However Le Meurice's wine list offers a a choice of four champagnes and six white and red wines by the glass. Service is impeccable and Le Meurice offers an entrancing dining experience in one of the most exquisite dining rooms in Paris.
