Review on Opus One Restaurant
Opus One is the signature restaurant of the privately owned boutique New County Hotel, located in the centre of Perth, a short walk from the Theatre and Concert Hall. The restaurant invites guests into a sleek and contemporary designed room, decked out in a palette of cream and brown.
Heading the kitchen is French chef Romi Denesle who has earned his culinary stripes in a number of Michelin starred establishments, including Louis Grondard's Drouant restaurant. Opus one is the recipient of many awards including two AA Rosettes and Romi Denesle also won the Medaille d'Or at 2011's Scottish Hotel Awards.
Fresh ingredients are judiciously employed in modern Scottish dishes with a French influence. Kick off with a starter of marinated pigeon breast smoked venison rasher, raspberries, beetroot and toasted pine nuts before a main course of Perthshire lamb chop, crispy lamb belly, peas and broad beans, seaweed and lamb jus. To finish there are inventive desserts, witness Scottish strawberry and Szechuan pepper soufflé with tonka bean ice cream and white chocolate sauce or dark chocolate and Cola Cake salted caramel, paired with peanut butter ice cream.
There is a concise wine list to complement the dishes, with plenty of good stuff from around the globe offering good-value.
