Review on Pine Trees Hotel, Pitlochry Restaurant
A classic Scottish country mansion built in 1892, the Pine Trees Hotel stands impressively in ten acres of gardens and woodland on the fringes of Pitlochry. Following extensive refurbishment in 2007, the place now benefits from high-quality interiors and all modern comforts, with generous helping of traditional style and old-world charm.
There are great views of the grounds from the Pitlochry Restaurant, a relaxed and charming dining room done out in country house style. The kitchen buys locally where possible and transforms good ingredients into sound dishes with a European slant. Roast chump of Perthshire lamb is set on an aubergine purée, while roast saddle of venison appears atop a bed of red cabbage with roast salsify. Fish also shows up well - perhaps fillet of sea bass on mussel and saffron risotto - while desserts could feature poached pear served on ginger cake with orange liqueur syrup.
