Review on Patrick's Restaurant & Bar
A stunningly converted bank building in up-and-coming Lower Parkstone is the setting for Patrick's contemporary restaurant and bar. Once through the original bank doors, you can't fail to notice the spectacular bespoke chandelier that hangs from the 40ft-high ceiling. The cool bar itself is open from 10 in the morning for coffee and pastries, and it provides drinks throughout the day.
A glass partition helpfully divides the bar from the no-smoking restaurant, which is overseen by Patrick himself. Chef Chris Howard has worked alongside the likes of Paul Heathcote and Paul Gayler, and he delivers a mixed bag of dishes spanning everything from brasserie favourites to fusion. On the one hand you might find home-cured trout and smoked salmon fishcakes or steak and kidney pie; on the other, gremolata crusted sea bass with fennel purée and saffron potatoes or Thai vegetable couscous with tempura of asparagus.
Straightforward grills are also big sellers, and the selection of desserts might feature baked rhubarb and ginger cheesecake with a vanilla 'shot' or high-calorie sticky toffee pudding with banana fritter and caramel sauce.
