Review on Castell Deudraeth Brasserie

Part of the world-famous Italianate village created in the 1920s by Sir Clough Williams-Ellis (and made legendary as the setting for the cult TV series The Prisoner), Castell Deudraeth is a staggering crenellated Victorian mansion overlooking the estuary.

The Brasserie is a modish contemporary space with big windows, lots of natural wood and blue-upholstered chairs. The kitchen bases its menus on local produce including crabs and lobsters from the Llyn Peninsula, oysters from the shores of Anglesey and hill-farmed lamb from Bala.

Home-cured gravlax or confit of duck leg with caramelised onions and redcurrant dressing might begin proceedings, before grilled salmon steak with asparagus and garlic potatoes or slow-roast belly pork with caramelised apple and creamed potatoes. Summer pudding is a typically seasonal dessert or you might try a nursery favourite like rhubarb crumble or apple pie.
