Review on The Bay Restaurant, Whitsand Bay Hotel
'Leisure and golf' are high on the agenda at this impressive family-run hotel nestling between Crafthole and the sea at Portwrinkle. The house itself was built in Thanckes Field, Torpoint, but was subsequently knocked down and transported - brick by brick - to its current home in 1910. These days, visitors can admire its 'medieval' tower, fine limestone exterior and the gorgeous stained glass window over the stairway.
Formal meals are served in the Bay Restaurant, a stylish dining room with high-backed leather chairs, floral arrangements and numerous prints on the walls. Fish from the Cornish ports and other local produce is used to good effect in dishes such as tian of handpicked crabmeat with mango salsa and citrus dressing, loin of venison with spiced red cabbage, honey-glazed fig and red wine sauce, and roast fillet of cod with prawn and cockle risotto, samphire and seafood chowder. For dessert, consider white and dark chocolate torte or crème brûlée with a sablé biscuit and orange sorbet.
