Review on Gran Hotel Son Net, Oleum
Done with Deia and the gourmets head for the town of Puigpunyent and Oleum, the restaurant at the Mallorca Gran Hotel Son Net which claims, 'Oleum Restaurant is the point of reference for fine dining in Mallorca', leaving Chef Sebastian Campins and his team to work to very high standards indeed. The backdrop for Sebastian's cuisine is a hundred year old olive press and a room that is both traditional and elegant creating a warm and intimate ambience.
The kitchen draws on supplies from its own gardens as well as local farms, estates, orchards and fishing boats for what is best described as traditional Mediterranean cuisine with a Mallorcan twist to produce, a contemporary repertoire of dishes ranging from: courgettes stuffed with shellfish or warm salad of lamb fillet and walnut to beef entrecote with truffle risotto or cod a la Solleric. Elaborate desserts might involve soufflé of passion fruit and raspberry, Pina Colada in cream and coconut sorbet or banoffee pie.
The wine list is a cracker with pedigree clarets lurking among New World treasures and plenty of top names from Spain and Mallorca.
