Review on Abbey Restaurant at Risley Hall
Stately Risley Hall offers an oasis of tranquillity and calm amid 17 acres of stunning landscaped gardens in the Derbyshire countryside. Built on the site of an eleventh-century manor house, it has evolved over the centuries into an elegant country house hotel and spa that has played host to royalty, politicians and poets seeking a quiet rural retreat in idyllic surroundings.
Within the hotel, the award-winning Abbey Restaurant offers inventive contemporary cooking, relying on seasonality and with a bias towards the French style - perhaps a terrine of ham hock and duck liver, ahead of pan-fried turbot with thyme and a chicken demi-glace, with rhubarb crème brûlée to finish.
Ideally located for all of the major tourist attractions that Derbyshire has to offer, including the Peak District, Chatsworth House, Royal Crown Derby and the literary landmarks of DH Lawrence and Lord Byron, Risley Hall is one of the top venues of its kind in the East Midlands.
