Review on O'Callaghan-Walshe
Owner Sean Kearney's ebullient and engaging personality sets the tone in this atmospheric restaurant on Rosscarbery village square. It may look rather like a bar from the outside, but the stone-walled interior tells a different story, with shelves of wine bottles, mismatched furniture, fishing nets and other nautical paraphernalia.
Ultra-fresh seafood (bought at auction direct from the boats) steals the limelight and the menu changes daily depending on the catch and the market. Rosscarbery oysters are a must, but the choice might extend to John Dory with watercress sauce, grilled whole lobster, roast hake and brill. There are steaks for meat fans, plus inviting desserts such as zabaglione or sticky toffee pudding.
