Review on The River Room Restaurant at Oxford Thames
The De Vere Oxford Thames hotel is built around a cluster of medieval buildings just three miles from Oxford, in the village of Sandford on Thames. This modern sandstone hotel makes the most of its setting, with 30 acres of lush gardens and grounds running down to the banks of the Thames. There are spectacular views from the windows of the River Room Restaurant, and in summer you can soak up the pleasures and the sun from the lovely courtyards and river terrace.
Sound international cooking is the order of the day, with typical dishes along the lines of crab and red onion tartlet, tenderloin of pork with apples, cider and tarragon sauce, and desserts like chocolate and kumquat truffle. On Sundays, there's a popular carvery to the accompaniment of live jazz, and casual meals are served in the Crusader Bar, located in one of the original medieval barns.
