Review on Read's Hotel, The Blues
The Blues offers informal dining at the luxurious Read's Hotel & Spa just outside the pretty village of Santa Maria. Heading east out of Santa Maria look for the sign on the left which will lead you to the magnificent manor house dating from the 16th century and loving restored by its English owner, Vivian Read.
Argentinian born Chef Damion Elizalde presides over the stoves at The Blues which is situated in the 18th century olive pressing room still with all its original equipment providing a totally unique and magic setting. There is a fantastic 3 course set price Menu dal Dia or from the a la carte you might kick off with goats cheese stuffed Piquillo peppers with salsa verde or chicken liver parfait with toasted brioche and a tomato & mustard chutney followed by homemade pasta with wild mushrooms, rocket leaves and shaved parmesan or BLUES hamburger with French fries (and if you wish with bacon, cheese or chilli sauce). Desserts could include pink grapefruit jelly with lychee sorbet and a yoghurt espuma or grilled peach with vanilla Mascarpone and ginger ale jelly.
Read's sommelier Sebastian Bustamante has put together a list of about 20 very interesting and unusual wines for The Blues.
