Review on Casa Negra
Casa Negra formerly The Great Eastern Dining Room launched in June 2013, part of Will Ricker's highly fashionable gastronomic empire occupying a one-time fabric warehouse in desirable Shoreditch. Sibling to Soho's successful La Bodegra Negra, the new restaurant has undergone a transformation designed once again by NYC's Serge Becker, who has taken inspiration from a Mexican design that will also feature elements of a traditional English house. Downstairs is home to club Casa Playroom which will host live acts.
New York chef Brad McDonald is holding the reins in the kitchen having honed his culinary skills in upscale Mexican Brooklyn restaurant Gran Eléctrica. With a more concise and affordable menu that its older sibling, it will run along similar lines offering Mexican street food in the form of sharing plates. Signature dishes will include dishes such as Carnitas de lechon, suckling pig which will offer various cuts from all parts of the pig, served with salsas and traditional garnishes. To finish there are desserts in the shape of vanilla cookies with dulce de leche and chocolate tacos with ice-cream, chocolate sauce and spiced peanuts.
Cocktails are a hot ticket and with a 2am licence on both floors, it's a high-energy venue that throbs with noise and action.
